Victor Niglio & Jake Sgarlato – Swing! [June 24 – Dim Mak Records]
Dim Mak Records is one of the few labels in mainstream dance music willing to sign artists with little international renown. They demonstrated that about a year ago when they signed a track from a up-and-coming American by the name of Victor Niglio. Since then, Niglio has only gone up in dance music society, dropping his unique style of electro on Ones To Watch Records, and serving as one of dance music’s best Twitter personalities. This time, he is back on the label where it all started working with Jake Sgarlato. They met thanks to a promo email that Sgarlato sent back in October 2013, and it’s clear that these two hit it off immediately. Victor Niglio claims that, “everything this guy touches is straight fire,” and their track “Swing!” definitely proves that. As mentioned previously, the track is due out on June 24 through Steve Aoki‘s Dim Mak Records.
Now that labels seem to be deathly afraid of the generic big room sound, there has to be something unique about a track to get it signed. Luckily, Victor Niglio and Jake Sgarlato have that covered with very little difficulty. The break is broken up every few bars with a little bit of silence and a cowbell hit, and emphasizes that the break is all building up to the drop. This is achieved through careful use of white noise, percussion, and intricately overlaid vocal samples. After a repeating but groovy vocal sample of, “Swing, baby, swing!” the madness really gets underway. The drop on “Swing!” has a sound that will definitely get you moving, but probably not swing dancing. It’s more of a funky house type sound. Whatever kind of sound, this collaboration between Victor Niglio and Jake Sgarlato is exactly what Niglio said earlier: “straight fire”.
Grab “Swing!” when it drops on June 24. Enjoy!
