Luis Flores – Test Pattern [CLR]
A departure from a lot of the more melodic tracks posted here on DR, Luis Flores’s Test Pattern is a dark, trippy trio of tracks that will appeal to those interested in more bass-heavy techno. Focusing less on melody and more on rhythm, these tracks at first seem a bit repetitive. In a way, they most definitely are and for most listeners sitting at home, in front of the computer may not be the best time to hear it. To really enjoy Flores’s tracks, you have to be in a dark underground club in a city like Berlin, with strobe lights flashing and a large crowd of people around you. If you can transport yourself there, these tracks take on a new life and show a very interesting niche in the techno culture. The way Flores combines bass and drums is very interesting, and his use of different types of instruments is very unique to the genre itself. The track is quite expansive, having a lot of reverb and catering to a larger room. Of course, give these tracks a listen and see if the genre fits your personality, but as always come in with an open mind and enjoy.
