Rework – Rise And Fall [Visionquest]
An interesting blend of tech and deep house, Rework’s short release “Rise and Fall” is a diverse selection of tracks that show off the group’s varied production style and unique take on their respective genres. The main track in this release, “Rise and Fall” is the most accessible with a heavy bass-line, and tight groove that will instantly get you moving. While it still holds true to the ambient and dark late-night feel of the release as a whole, the energy is much higher and eases you into the later releases where Rework takes things to a whole new level of minimalistic and dark house. With “Ask You” the release takes a left turn into a much odder style, with almost The Who-esque synths overtop a much slower beat, monotone vocals, and a deep booming bass-line. A bit harder to chew, but still a good listen nonetheless. Finally, “I’m Waiting” finishes off the release with a very minimalistic combination of a few instruments, and more monotone vocals. The drum beat is interesting in that Rework almost tries to make it sound like it was produced by someone without much experience, and the song doesn’t really take off from its one plateau of sound. An interesting release, and worth a listen. Check it out.
