A Mysteriously High Charting from Miss Tara Draws Ire Of Dance Music World
Usually, a track charts on Beatport after it gets lots of support from labels and artists around the world. However, there is a tune that has somehow worked its way into the Beatport Top 10 with neither. Normally, seeing an artist explode like this is a good sign, but something just does not feel right. The song comes from MissTara, an artist who has only 2 releases on Beatport and released “Runaway” on Bonnies Records. The track only received about 2000 plays on SoundCloud, but is currently sitting pretty at #4 on the Beatport Top 100. How could this happen? Well, money. She has over 20K likes on Facebook, but has not received more than 30 likes on any particular post, which indicates the presence of potentially purchased fans. The same goes for Twitter, as 20K followers have barely delivered one or two retweets. If you can buy Facebook fans and Twitter followers, you must be able to buy Beatport purchases. And that has been proved true: an exposé written by Only The Beat describes the existence and pricing required for this feat. This way, an artist can make more money by investing in this service. However, as our friends Sebastien Lintz and The FPIA have pointed out on Twitter, it is necessary to point out situations like this so that “juiced” tracks from artists who try to show “the scene as a joke” so that the industry can maintain its dignity.

@TheFPIA @SebastienLintz @Lepetitbart @beatport it's bullcrap. iTunes Dance is a better metric for a song's popularity
