5 Best Labels In EDM
It seems like every day there’s a new record label and because it’s become so easy to start one due to the increase in the amount of sub-labels every artist feels that they need their own label to be established. The simple truth is, not all record labels are created equally, so here are the five labels that are doing it best. Go past the break to see who they are!
It’s not even a competition, in the last few years Mad Decent has become the place to be for EDM artists. The label isn’t afraid to let artists experiment with their sound and they have some of the industry’s most talented artists signed to their roster such as DJ Snake, Dillon Francis, GTA, Major Lazer, UZ, Grandtheft, Bro Safari, Yellow Claw, and Zeds Dead . The fact that Mad Decent takes the #1 spot shouldn’t surprise you considering Diplo is the point man over there. It also doesn’t hurt that the Mad Decent Block Parties are always some of the best value shows of the year.
2. Spinnin’ Records Seems like every single release these days has that black and white Spinnin’ logo on it doesn’t it? No one releases more music that hits the Beatport Top 100 than Spinnin’. As of this writing thirteen tracks in the Top 100 are Spinnin’ releases, two of which are in the top five. Don’t forget that Musical Freedom, Wall Recordings, and Doorn Records are all sub-labels of Spinnin’ as well. The only reason they don’t get the #1 spot is because a lot of their music tends to sound very similar.
3. Fool’s Gold Another label not afraid to experiment, Fool’s Gold is very similar to Mad Decent. A-Trak and Nick Catchdubs are the masterminds behind Fool’s Gold and they’ve managed to attract artists like Flosstradamus, RL Grime, Laidback Luke, Kid Cudi, Tommy Trash, and Carnage to their roster. They may not have the volume of releases that some other labels have, but they make up for it by being creative and consistently putting out music that challenges what people think EDM should sound like.
4. Dim Mak Records Under the leadership of Steve Aoki, Dim Mak has thrived and their unique style of marketing and powerful social media presence has helped them to become of the best labels in EDM. With two tracks currently in the Beatport Top 10 from Dim Mak it’s easy to see why they’re at #4. Dim Mak is also one of the most responsive labels in terms of interacting with media and is great at exposing bloggers to their less established artists and they’re always willing to give out free tickets and passes to deserving writers.
5. Anjuna You can’t make a list of the best record labels without including Anjuna. Started by the formidable production team known as Above & Beyond the British label releases quality over quantity and puts out music from some of the finest producers in the game such as Audien, Mat Zo, Andrew Bayer, and Arty.
