Mineo – Ghju Lia EP [Hypercolour]
Mineo, the new form of Tom Dinsdale, has released a new deep/tech EP on Hypercolour that is quite creative and in many ways an interesting blend of different genres into one cohesive and unique sound.
The EP starts off with “Get It Cracking”, an interesting blend of samples and analog drums that give the track an authentic feel. Once the bass kicks in and the beat really gets its groove going, the track sounds top notch and I enjoyed the heavily affected clarinet over the deep bass. “Are You Sick” dims the lights with a laid-back groove, a strong bass line, and repeating samples that add to the unique feel of the track. The bass waveforms are really interesting and show off that wonderful british ability to manipulate bass lines in fresh new ways. “My Style” is a bit more out there, with a dissonant melody and an interesting breakbeat style. Pay attention to the use of samples in this track as they are top notch, varied, and used to very good effect. Finally, “In This Era” combines wobbly bass lines and tech synths to create an interesting mix of styles. The tone on the synths is very, very well done so for those interested in production, pay attention to that. A great EP, and worth a listen by anyone who likes creative house.
