Dancefair 2014 @ Jaarbeurs, Utrecht
Two days in a year, the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht is all about the world of Dance Music. Dj’s, producers, fans of EDM music, big artists, labels and brands all come together for a special event that brings them closer to eachother. During these days every visitor felt like a kid in a big shop full of candy.
All the big brands that deliver soft- and hardware for dj’s/producer were present and showed some of their finest products. Native Instruments, Pioneer, Ableton, Tone Control are just a few examples. Every visitor had the chance to show their skills and form an opinion about the products they tried. It was overcrowded at the stand with controllers and dj equipment; everybody wanted to give it a try and at busy moments, the queues were quite long and you needed to be very patient.
What most of the people came for, however, were all the seminars given by many big producers like Hardwell, Armin van Buuren, Alvaro, Dyro, Blasterjaxx and Mell Tierra. Mell Tierra showed us how to create a big break that will improve your track, Blasterjaxx showed how they produced ‘Mystica’, Jay Hardway showed how he and Martin Garrix created ‘Wizard’ and Dirtcaps went for an interactive seminar, where they created a track together with the audience. They all did this with great enthusiasm and interest for the fans.
Besides the seminars, we have also seen many interviews with producers about everything the visitors wanted to know. The crowd had a great influence in this with the questions they wanted to have answered. There were mixed groups, with Techno Heroes, EDM Heroes, Hardstyle Heroes, Trap/Freestyle Heroes. Both the days delivered a big variation in that way and everyone always found something interesting. The dj/producers where enthusiast and answered the questions in an extensive way.
Jordy Dazz, Alvaro, Dyro and Sidney Samson answering questions.
Also, quite some Labels attended the event. Spinnin’, Mixmash, Revealed, Scantraxx and Armada were willing to listen to the many promo’s, delivered by the producers that hoped to get a chance. They patiently went from track to track and gave the producers feedback. Besides that, Spinnin’ and Mixmash invited ‘home-dj’s’ to play a set, which attracted a lot of attention. It wasn’t needed to attract people to them, because it was always crowded.
Okay, time for the conclusion. What have we seen? Too much to write down seems to be the only right answer. There were many, many seminars and it was hard to make the right choices, because everything was fun. The hours past like minutes and it was interesting for as well older as very young people. The tips were all very useful and it was nice to play with the DJ-gear. Dancefair, we’ll see you next year!
