Pete Tong, Carl Cox, Fatboy Slim, and More Join Movement To Stop Oil Drilling in Ibiza
Every summer, vacationers and dance music fans alike flock to the island of Ibiza. The island has become a destination because of its constant festival atmosphere, and also its beautiful landscape. According to the original article posted on the DJ Mag website, the Spanish government awarded Cairn Energy, a Scottish company, the right to search for hydrocarbons in the approximately 148-kilometer region between the island and the coast near Valencia, the third biggest metropolitan area in Spain. For obvious reasons, thousands of people have come out in opposition of the search for oil, with over 20,000 people signing the official petition on Change.org (link in Spanish).Recently, celebrities like Kate Moss have voiced their opposition, but we have heard from a whole host of DJ’s as well. Pete Tong, Carl Cox, Fatboy Slim have been huge opponents of the drilling initiative, but we have also heard from Dyed Soundorom, Richie Hawtin, Seth Troxler, and plenty of other big names. Each have been posting activism messages on their social media pages. On February 7, there will be a benefit show at Space Ibiza to raise both money and awareness for the cause.
