Dead Heat – Bosco EP [Life and Death]
Bosco EP, a very eclectic release from Dead Heat, is an interesting album due to its range of styles and genres encompassed within it, yet doesn’t benefit from the remixes that are packaged within it. Going from slow tempo indie dance, to techno, to deep house, things stay quite varied and leave you guessing as to what will come next.
The original track is a slow-tempo dance track, almost in the style of a Gorillaz song. Staying relatively low-key using percussion, sleepy vocals, and background noise, it never gets off the ground in terms of a dance music track (which I doubt it was completely intended as). However, when the guitar/harp synth comes in the track gets a breath of fresh air. The tone and chord progression of the synth contrasts the original feel of the song quite well and is a perfect addition. The Lucy Remix of Bosco is dark, heavy techno. It ends up being a bit monotonous and doesn’t do all that much, except it has a very interesting synth that creates a very evil, foreboding sound. I would actually classify it as one of the more interesting synths I’ve heard.
The Dam is the reason to buy this EP. Beautiful piano over light percussion, synth strings that compliment the track incredibly well, and more guitar to add flavor to an already well done track. This track is a must have. The Field Remix however is not as necessary. Once again rather bland, it just ends up being a bit monotonous and doesn’t do much that is too interesting.
