Volkoder – People House EP [Kittball]
Definitely one of the more eclectic and “out-there” EPs I’ve heard this month, People House EP is a creative mix of three genre-bending tracks.
People House, while at some points rather surprising, uses bass stabs to great effect and the rolling percussive instrument overtop really adds an interesting and fresh element to the track. Also, the way Volkoder uses scratching to go in and out of certain areas within the track is really well done. The tone of said scratching is perfect: thick, smooth, and makes your subwoofer rumble. All of these elements combined create a groovy, yet almost spacey dance track that is a good addition to any late-night set. Do You Love takes element of classic acid house and adds in futuristic synths over female vocals to once again give us an odd feeling that we’re somewhere in a club tripping balls. I did like the synth morphing in-between a classic acid house sound and to a more modern feel during certain areas, and the percussion lent a very well-done rhythmic addition to the melody that created a tight groove to the whole track. Finally, Tension is a more mellow track but still sticks to the same principles outlined above. Blending elements of the old and the new, it is massively spacious yet has a solid foundation overtop the bass stabs. I enjoyed the different bass waveforms in this track and they were used in combination with tonality to have a really cool blossoming effect. Check this EP out.
