Drew Hill – Solitude EP [Born Electric]
Solitude EP is a bit of a departure from the standard dance music you’ll see on this site. Nonetheless, it is some of the best electronic music I’ve heard this month. Blending pop melodies, dance synths, creative percussion, and catchy hooks, Solitude EP is something you can listen to at any point of the day and enjoy.
In The End’s vocals are absolutely top notch. Catchy, well articulated but not hurt by the effects, they will pull you in as the track slowly builds itself up. The groove is slow, but the almost Show Me Love-esque synths are a really great match with the feel of the song. The drum beat is also wonderfully subtle, not taking a lot of the spotlight, but adding a necessary driving force to the track. Solitude is a wonderfully playful track with light chords over once again beautiful vocals. I absolutely loved the articulation and tone of the chords during the vocals, as well as the following mini-bridge that picks up the groove for a bit. If just for this song, buy this EP. Finally, Cloud Boat remixes Solitude. Focusing more on samples, percussion, and synths, it’s a bit more instrumental. While I was originally a bit hesitant as I found it a bit bland, after listening to it a few more times I really started to enjoy it. The use of samples adds a very unique feel and while I felt some of the drums were mixed a bit loud, Cloud Boat creates a new, unique melody from the original track that is also catchy yet lends a different sort of feeling to the listener. Therefore, I’m giving it more credit and it is definitely worth your time. Solitude EP combines the best aspects of any kind of music. Creativity, technical skill, feeling, and a unique style. Wonderfully done, and I cannot wait to see what is next for Drew Hill.
