The Wonder From Down Under! Our Interview With Skyden
As the title says, We interviewed Australian producer Skyden! We talked inspiration, dream performances, more. Check out what Skyden had to say in our interview below. enjoy!
Who or what inspired you to make dance music?
Wow that’s a tough question to answer! I don’t think I can recall a DJ or song that inspired me to make music, I’ve just been involved in music my whole life, played many different instruments, saxophone being my main. I think it was just the fact I needed a better hobby instead of playing computer games haha.
Your most recent song “Invasion” was just released on Vicious Records. You’ve released with Vicious before. What is it like working with them?
Well “Invasion” is my second single with Vicious haha. But I love the team at Vicious, very supportive and they really believe in the music I’m making, so that makes me really happy and excited! I do bust their balls a lot with new tracks and always have questions that need answering but they never complain :)
Do you have any new music that you’re currently working on that you can tell us about?
Yeah, I have tons of material I’m working on at the moment! In the final stages of vocal production on a song I wrote 2 years ago, really commercial happy song. I also have about 10 other vocal originals I’m 80% finished. Also just done an official remix for Dirty South for the Vicious 21 years compilation, which was a great honor to be apart of!
How have you gone about finding your sound? Is it something you want to stick with or will it change over time?
Umm, that’s a great question, looking back over my work 2 years ago it has changed drastically! I think my sound will always develop and grow, but at the moment I’m really happy with it. Melody is the most important part for me in a song, so getting that right and creating a sound that fits who I am has been a massive learning curve! The world hasn’t heard my unique sound I’m making at the moment, but I’m really excited to finally show everyone soon!
As a young producer, where do you see yourself in 5/10 years?
Hopefully sharing my music with the whole world, and making a lot of people happy haha, thats my aim!
If you could collaborate with any artists, regardless of genre, who would it be and why?
That is an incredibly hard question to answer, as there is so much talent out there that I love! But, someone who is really close to my heart would be Axwell! How he can turn a song from an 8/10 to a 10/10 is phenomenal, and I would love to just pick his brain out and learn as much as I can from him!
Do you have a favorite that you’ve played at so far? What is your dream venue?
Too be honest, my ideal gig/show would be anywhere, as long as everyone in the venue is loving my music and can sing along with my own songs! For me, this would be a dream come true! But, Tomorrowland I saw looks cool haha.
Do you have times where you get “producers block?” If so, is there anything special you do to get the creativity flowing again?
Yeah of course! All the time!! I have a really cute and demanding dog haha, So I take her for a run!!
What is your opinion on the “ghost producing” epidemic?
I think if it works for you and makes you happy, then that’s great! I think artist need to play to their strengths! Some artist can’t sit in the studio all day and night and play with EQ or a compressor, but some artist are really exceptional at performing and entertaining, and if you need someone to write tracks for you to help convey your message and branding, then that’s totally cool! I have done some ghost tracks for artist myself, and as long as everyone is happy with the agreement than that’s great! I think it’s important that the artist is involved somehow in the production of the track, whether its helping writing a top line or anything!
Where can we expect to see you in 2014?
Hopefully in more great blogs like this and charting heaps!
