Mix Selection: Recapping 2013 – The Yearmixes
2013 has been a great year for many producers. Hardwell became the number 1 dj in the world, Dyro was the highest entry in the DJ Mag and Showtek was the highest re-entry. Of course success isn’t just showed by results in the DJ Mag competition. We saw new talents coming up and confirming their amazing skills and we saw loads of releases that made us party like it was the last thing we did.
To close the year 2013 properly, we decided to share with you the top 10 yearmixes of 2013. You’ll see the most famous names, but also a few artists that might be a little new for you. But isn’t that the joy of EDM, discovering new artists? Time to start with our number 10!
10. Komanda – Bootcamp Episode 2 (Yearmix Special)
Dutchman Komanda was an often seen guest in Yellow Claw performances and has some good skills in Trap. He created a yearmix that has almost everything. Trap, Electro House and Progressive House. He chose the right tracks and mixed them together in the way they should be mixed. And what’s even better, the mix can be downloaded for free!
9. D.O.D – Ones To Watch 2013 Yearmix
2013 was a successful year for as well D.O.D as Ones To Watch Records. D.O.D had quite some huge releases and his status became bigger and bigger. More people started to like his tracks and that’s how he slowly became a producer to watch. He also had one of the first releases of Ones To Watch Records, the little brother of Mixmash Records. Ones To Watch had some insane releases this year by D.O.D, Blasterjaxx, Lucien Foort and many more. All the releases created by the label are covered in this yearmix, mixed perfectly together! This mix is also downloadable.
8. Vicetone – End Of Year Mix 2013
Dutch duo Vicetone already had a good 2012, but took everything to a whole new level in 2013. They got signed for Protocol Recordings and had their first releases on Nicky Romero’s label. They played their tracks on some of the biggest parties and showed that they’re not just some nice guys that will be forgotten soon, no Vicetone is a stayer! For this yearmix, they chose all their successful tracks and mixed it together, for free!
7. Big & Dirty – Yearmix 2013
Besides Ones To Watch Records, Big & Dirty Recordings also had a blast this year. With international names like Sick Individuals, HIIO & Jochen Miller and upcoming talents like Erik Arbores, Eyedentity and Mickmag & JustBob, they provided us with a nice variation of tracks. In 2013 the label brought us 75 new tracks and all of them have been put in this yearmix. Unfortunately it’s not clear who made the yearmix, but it is an full hour of pleasure!
6. Diplo & Friends – Diplo rounds up 2013
Of course, mister Diplo couldn’t be left behind in this yearmix selection. The Mad Decent boss again had a good year and is one of the biggest names at the moment. The veteran producer didn’t slow down in 2013 at all and summarizes the year with his special Diplo & Friends broadcast. The mix contains Hip Hop & Trap and he put some absolute classic tunes (with a 2013 view) in it, making it a strong mix from the first second. Unfortunately this mix is not downloadable.
5. Laidback Luke – Yearmix 2013
Laidback Luke keeps on showing that he’s one of the most successful producers at the moment. His labels Ones To Watch and Mixmash Records had a good year, with some stunning releases and mister Laidback Luke himself released some insane tunes, that got played by all the big names in the world of EDM. His yearmix shows his mixing capacity with 72 tracks in one hour. The whole mix makes sense and with the high variation, it definitely deserves a spot in the top 5.
4. Gregor Salto – Salto Sounds Vol. 19 Yearmix
You never know what to expect with Gregor Salto. The Dutch producer is one of the leading figures when it comes to Latin House, but also dropped some insane Electro House tracks or remixes, like ‘Toys Are Nuts 2013’ (With Chuckie), ‘Intimi’ (With Wiwek) and his ‘Work Remix’. It makes every track special and also his sets are full of variation. Gregor Salto is still a name to keep in mind and his yearmix underlines this as well, with some of the finest tunes from his hand.
3. Fedde Le Grand – Dark Light Sessions 074 Yearmix 2013
Fedde Le Grand continued with the thing he did in 2012. Dropping insane tunes that make people go crazy all night. Like every year, he was part of some of the biggest festivals and he smashed every set. We can say that his yearmix is nothing different than his other sets. He selected some of the finest tunes and put them together in a grooving and booming yearmix, which me made downloadable as well!
2. Armin van Buuren – A State of Trance Year Mix 2013 (Mini Mix)
Okay, Armin van Buuren might have lost the first spot in the DJ Mag Top 100 to Hardwell this year. It however doesn’t slow him down at all! He kicked off his new and huge worldtour, he produced another track that became almost too successful and his fanbase kept on growing. How can we say that he had a bad year? That’s right we can’t. Armin van Buuren is still on fire and shows that with his Mini Yearmix. His full yearmix can be bought, will be 2 hours long and is definitely worth your money!
1. Hardwell – Hardwell 2013 Yearmix
We had to go for the number one as number one. This means that mister Hardwell deserves the first spot in this yearmix selection. We might don’t have to say that he had the year many producers could only dram of. His label Revealed Recordings did more than great, Hardwell released some of the finest tunes that went straight to 1 in the Beatport Top 100 and he became number 1 dj in the world. The fact that his yearmix can be downloaded for free, makes it even better. According to a ‘fan’ Hardwell mixes flawlessly and it looks like he does prerecorded sets and now he is number one in our mixselection!
