Milk N Cookies – Fall Semester / Mastodon (Not Afraid)

The guys behind that massive, big-room “Animals” remix has struck again with TWO free downloads. I’m talking about Milk N Cookies, a duo that is up-and-coming out of Chicago, Illinois, USA. They posted two free download tracks, each with a completely different vibe. One is heavy electro with vocals, and the other is beautiful instrumental progressive house. Each has been talked about and teased for months, and as a fan of these guys, I’m excited to have these tunes in my library.

In “Fall Semester,” the melody is mind-blowing. Each different note flows into the next, creating a very high-quality and freely flowing sound. These guys use an incredible build tactic: they make the build longer than 15 seconds, so that it has more of a gradual sound rather than the forced snare rolls of some house tracks nowadays. The drop on this track is pure bliss, and reminds me of something that Tom Staar would put out.

“Mastodon (Not Afraid)” begin simply as an instrumental track, but gained beautiful vocals from Alina Renae during the production process. The chords on this track blend amazingly with the vocals, and give this track that hands-in-the-air vibe that’s essential to any huge track. The drop on this track goes in a completely different direction from “Fall Semester,” and is just as effective. It consists of quite a strong bassline, and wild synths that “sound like an old ass elephant,” according to the guys.
