He already has his own distinct sound, so when you hear it, you know it’s none other that Ummet Ozcan. We got to talk with him about inspirations, new music, and future plans. Enjoy!
1. Who or what made you decide to produce dance music?
My older brothers always played these cool dance compilation CD’s and I really liked that kind of music. So once I got my first keyboard and computer I started to program beats and combine it with funny synth line.
2. What is you opinion on the current state of Electronic Dance Music?
It’s a great melting pot of all kinds of influences and styles. I like that. And now that the scene has exploded in the US there is a big new global dance music revival with cool new DJ’s and producers. It will always go on and on!
3. Do you have any songs that you’re currently working on that you can tell us about?
At the moment I am working on a remix, and a doing the final mixing for the collab with Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. So there is some exciting stuff coming up.
4. Your music has a distinct sound. How did you go about making this sound?
I don’t exactly know, It just happens. I guess I have my own signature. It’s all about layers and sometimes these very small but essential things that are hidden in the track. If you play it with your headphone on, you will probably hear new things all the time
5. Your song “The Cube” has an interesting music video. How did you come up with the idea for the video?
The song is a bit dark and obscure, so we were looking for a similar video. I like this atmosphere a lot and we are working with a great video director who understood the message in the record.
6. If you could collaborate with any artist, regardless of genre, who would it be and why?
I’d like to do a collab with someone to produce the score for a feature film. That would be so great. Besides my EDM stuff, I like to produce soundscapes too. So I guess it would be Hans Zimmer, who did the music for Pirates of the Caribbean, Inception, etc. I am big fan of his work.
7. Who can you site as your main inspirations for your music?
I guess it is not a ‘who,’ but I am inspired by life itself, inspiration can be found in a lot of things, mostly small things.
8. If you could play at any venue, what would it be and why?
Haha, tough question. It would be great to do a real king size arena with a big stage in the middle and everywhere people around me coming to hear my music, that would be awesome.
9. Do you have times where you get “producers block?” If so, is there anything special you do to get the creative process flowing again?
Yes like almost every creative spirit, I sometimes get stuck to. It’s annoying but I know that in the end it always works out. Sometimes I just go outside to get some fresh air and enjoy nature or a get a coffee at a café. It helps me to clear my mind and start again.
10. Where can we expect to see you for the rest of 2013 and beyond?
There are a lot of TILT shows coming up. TILT is my world tour and we are planning now to come to Asia, India, China etc. Also I will do a lot of show in the US.
Below are some of his recent releases and upcoming songs. Take a listen and enjoy!
