Dreams/Lucid Out On Bedrock Records
Dreams/Lucid is some hard hitting, dark techno produced by Jimmy Van M, AFFKT, and Luxor T (who also contributes some vocals). While this release is a bit tough to chew at times and may not be the most accessible in a lot of sets, each track is absolutely top notch and has very unique and interesting elements to them.
For a techno track, Dreams is very bouncy. The beat doesn’t weigh the track down like it can in a lot of techno and allows the song to be very danceable. The bass underneath is also top notch, pumping in time with the beat, yet not overpowering it. Combine those elements with interesting chant-like vocals, a great drop, and some very unique instruments, and you have a techno track worthy of any dark and intense set.
Lucid is a bit more spacious, but has an incredible and absolutely booming drop. For those progressive fans out there, one could possibly compare the energy conveyed by Lucid’s drop as one from a track like ‘Epic’. It may not have all the frills, but once you hear it through club speakers, you’ll see what I mean. It’s simplistic, and doesn’t move all too far throughout the song, but has a great drum beat. I’m also a sucker for good use of cymbals so once that driving ride cymbal comes in, I was sold.
