Photograph + Jordan Suckley ‘Who’s Afraid Of 138?!’ Remixes Out On Who’s Afraid Of 138
When electronic music of all genres seems to be utilizing more progressive sounds, five-time DJ Mag #1 winner and current title holder Armin Van Buuren sets out to give uplifting trance lovers a place to call home with his new label Who’s Afraid of 138. What started out as an on-air joke during Armin’s ‘A State of Trance’ podcast has evolved into a full-fledged label specializing in feel good trance set to a faster pace.
WAO138’s first releases are the Photographer and Jordan Suckley remixes of Van Buuren’s song of the same name, which debuted on his most recent album Intense. Photographer, out of the Ukrain, have been leaving their mark on the trance scene over the past few years, crafting remixes featured in sets from some of today’s biggest DJ’s. Their take on Armin’s original gets off to an energetic start then calms down, showcasing a peaceful melody before building back up with hard-hitting bass and fat synths that lead to an epic drop, sure to take any listener on an emotional journey.
Suckley, an up-and-comer in the trance scene, has been making a name for himself through his own productions and collaborations. His remix of WAO138 shows his more technical approach to producing, incorporating some electro elements reminiscent of a Wolfgang Gartner tune. His track retains the beautiful melodies and breakdown of the original, but the added sound layers and twist on the guitar riff gives it a darker, almost sinister sound.
So do Armin, Photographer and Jordan Suckley deliver? Give the first releases from WAO138 a listen and you be the judge. Both tracks are available now on Beatport and if you like what you hear, be sure to buy them to support Armin’s new label so we can see more quality releases.
