Dolce Talks Twerk, Kanye West, + Upcoming Plans: Our Interview With Dolce!
Today, we interview British producer Dolce. He has one EP under his belt and I’m sure many more on the way. He also just released his monthly mix for July a few days ago. In this interview we discuss new music, future plans, inspirations and much, much more. After you read what he has to say, I highly recommend you go and listen to his music on soundcloud. You won’t be disappointed. Enjoy!
1. How would you describe yourself to potential new fans?
I’m a British producer, dedicated to making your speakers rattle and your room shake! I produce trap music first and foremost, but I like to experiment so you’ll hear all sorts of different stuff from me.
2. Was there a specific instance that made you decide to start making music?
Well, I’d played musical instruments from quite a young age so I always knew I wanted to be involved in music in some way – but the thought of joining an orchestra or something just seemed a little too nerdy for me, personally. When I was about 15 years old I got the chance to do some work experience in a music studio with a local producer and they helped me with how to use Cubase and hooked me up with a midi keyboard, so I guess that was pretty much the starting point of me making my own electronic music.
3. Who can you site as your main inspirations?
I have quite a few different artists who have inspired me in really different ways, but probably the main one that comes to mind would be Chase & Status, simply because they were one of the first bass-orientated acts that I got into. I love how they can hop between genres but still retain the same vibe so that you can always tell it’s one of their productions. That’s something I’m always trying to perfect with my music.
4. What is your opinion on the rapidly rising trap/twerk genre?
The 100 BPM stuff? I love it! I’ve never really been a fan of moombahton, which I guess sounds pretty sonically similar, but for some reason I’m really feeling the new wave of it. I think it’s something to do with the whole “bouncy” feel of it. I’ve messed around a little bit with it and I’m really happy with the results, so expect to hear some of that from me!
5. Do you have a favorite producer right now?
It changes all the time! But simply due to how good the EP he just dropped was, I’d have to say RL Grime right now. I think he’s probably one of the more consistent producers that I listen to. His & Salva’s remix of “Jamie Lidell – What A Shame” is definitely in my Top 10 trap tracks, possibly even Top 5.
6. If you could collaborate with one artist, regardless of genre, who would it be and why?
My absolute dream collaboration would be with Kanye West. He is, hands down, my favourite artist ever. I’ve always appreciated both his production work and his rapping / singing so to work on a track with him would be insane. I can dream haha.
7. Do you have any songs your currently working on that you can tell us about?
I’ve got a few different projects all on at the minute – There’s a steady flow of new material being produced it’s just about the timing of it getting released. Keep your eyes and ears open though, as soon as I get news on that I’ll let people know straight away! Other than that I like to put out random free downloads at least once a month if I haven’t released anything, so you’ll never have to wait too long for new music!
8. If you lose your creativity is there anything special you do to get your creativity flowing again?
This happens to me so often, I get really bad cases of writers block but I’ve found that one of the best ways I get myself through it is by listening to some music that I’ve never heard before from different genres. I always hear some sounds or production techniques that I’ve never thought of using before that make me want to drop everything and get back in the studio working. I think that’s a great habit to get into regardless of if you’re having creative difficulties, just to help broaden your musical horizons.
9. Do you have a favorite venue that you’ve played at?
Believe it or not, I’ve only ever played one live set in my life! And that was at Parklife Festival here in Manchester this year, so by default that takes the win haha.
10. Where can we expect to see you in the next few months?
The next booking I have is at Loominus Festival here in the UK in September, but I’m in talks with a few different people so hopefully I’ll have more dates confirmed soon for this year!
We’ve included his song “Sunlight” which is available for free download. Take a listen and enjoy!
