Northmark Remixes Calvin Harris & Ellie Goulding’s “I Need Your Love”
Just under one month ago, Scottish producer/DJ Calvin Harris continued his trend of releasing the acappella vocal files for his hit songs. Previous examples include “Bounce” and “You Used To Hold Me”. Now, the acappella for arguably Calvin’s biggest song (“I Need Your Love” w/ Ellie Goulding) has been released to the public. This release inspired Swedish producer Northmark to put his spin on Harris’ production, and Goulding’s vocals. Northmark has gained fame in the online music world with his impeccable remakes of 2 unreleased tracks by Alesso.
Northmark begins his remix by placing Goulding’s beautiful vocal work on top of a set of piano chords, which are soon joined by contemporary percussion. As Ellie hits the chorus, the electric vibe begins to build, as synths are layered on top of a sublime bassline. One of the most interesting parts of the track is how it builds towards the climax. The majority of songs build using a looped snare, which grows shorter as the climax approaches. Northmark impresses by building up suspense without a snare roll, but instead using a simple filter and drum sequence. What is even more masterful is the climax itself. It features a beautiful progressive house sound interlaced with Ellie’s timeless vocals. The wonder behind this remix does not stop there though, as the second break begins beautiful orchestral interlude, before giving it all again.
