Makerbat Previews “Jij En Ik”
Dance music in the summer often has two faces. While many festivals rage on through the night, there are many artists who create tracks for a different vibe. The music of choice for many summer parties and other events is simple, tried-and-true tech house. Artists who produce this type of music are looking to make the perfect song for watching the sunset, or simply having a good time with friends. An artist who I recently discovered, the mysterious Makerbat, has definitely taken this formula to heart in his track “Jij En Ik” (translated from Dutch, meaning “You And Me”).
The track is centered around vocals from an unidentified female vocalist, who begins to sing over a guitar and subtle percussion. The slow addition of white noise leads the track toward its fantastic, groove-heavy climax, which features a light synth on top of the vocals, guitar, and other percussion. As the climax breaks down, the track becomes even more beautiful and dynamic, with the addition of a saxophone riff.
