Tritonal at Mansion Miami July 27, 2013
I have been to Mansion nightclub in Miami Beach numerous times over the past year and when one of my best friends Tyler told me that he was going to see Tritonal on July 27th I knew I had to go with him. I am blessed in a way that I have a friend of mine who puts on events at clubs in Miami Beach and he was able to get my friends and I in for free as well as being able to party in VIP. Knowing this, I started planning my long drive to Miami. This marks the first time that I have seen Tritonal perform but one of my other best friends, Gregg has and he told me that they were incredible live.
I departed my house around 7 p.m.., which gave me enough time to get to my Tyler’s apartment around 9:15 p.m. After waiting for him to finish getting ready we began our trek to Miami Beach to meet up with his friend from home and her boyfriend. As we arrived in Miami Beach it began to rain cats and dogs and having lived in Florida for several years I know that Floridians cannot drive in the rain. This caused traffic to back up but luckily our friend who was putting on the event pushed the meet up time back to 15 past midnight.
After meeting up with Tyler’s friends we found a parking lot close to Mansion and began our rain soaked walked to the meet up spot right out front of the club. As the clock struck 12:30 we got in to the VIP line and were immediately let in upon checking our ids to make sure we were over 21. Upon walking inside we were greeted with the sight of a lavish club possessing one of the best sound systems in America that has color changing lights in the walls and ceilings. We walk to the VIP section and obtain our wristbands from one of the VIP employees and are relieved to find that we have a great view of the dj booth along with comfortable couches and a plethora of free alcohol.
While I hadn’t yet seen Tritonal live, I have listened to numerous episodes of their Tritonia radio show. The energy he (one of the two guys who actually talks during radio show) brings to the listener is unlike anything I have ever encountered. Not to diss foreigners, but it is so refreshing listening to American dj’s psych you up for their set. My favorite quote from their shows has to be their sendoff: “Volume Heading North.” They even play snips of their fans praising there work via a hotline they’ve set up. “Hey Tritonal… You guys rocked at electric daisy carnival!! I am now a devoted Tritonian…” said one fan during one of their epic radio shows.
Finally, the clock strikes 1:30, and you know what’s about to happen. That intro creeps in, the beat fades out, a steady tone chimes in… TRITONAL has begun. They started off with some unreleased tracks. Banger after banger is all I can say. Each song brought more intensity and emotion than the last. Then came some familiars… Tommy trash’s “Sunrise”… Tritonal’s Reset with 7 skies… Then one of my latest favorites “Echoes” by Henrik B started blaring through the speakers. “We opened with this track at EDC Vegas!” This song has a killer melody, and was released by Avicii’s L7VELS label, which is no wonder this song is a banger. Finally, the moment I had been waiting for… THE BULLET THAT SAVED MEEEEE! I could tell this was their original mix and not their festival mix (don’t worry, wait till the end). What a moment it is indeed to observe one of your favorite dj groups put on your favorite song. A song that flows through you like blood pumping through your veins.
By this point, the GA had settled down a little – time to get my hands dirty!! We strutted out of VIP like we run the place to go dance with the peasants. Boy was that a great idea. We literally walked right up to the dj booth front and center. Tritonal were just feet in front of us and were even more exuberant and charismatic than some of the people dancing around me. Not only that, but they were in the middle of dropping animals… “Show us what you got when the mother (PING) beat drops!”
Now comes one of my favorite moments of the set. “If everyday goes like this, how do we survive??” Oh yea, you know what time it is… but wait for the drop… Is that?? All of the sudden, the vocals cut out and in comes one of my favorite djs smash hit, Audien’s “Wayfarer”. “OOOHHH” you could hear me screaming in excitement on my video of this epic moment. What a perfect blend of two awesome songs.
They’ve got the crowd right where they want them at this point. The music cuts, and I can hear the beginnings of Alesso’s remix of “lose myself” chime in. “I stared up at the sun… Thought of all of the people, places and things I’ve loved.” Followed by the incredible Armin’s “This is What it Feels” which brought the entire dance floor into a harmonious chant of celebratory love for one another. Next is Lucky Date’s funky-fresh remix of Apollo. Man does that get the crowd jumpin.
Right there, in that perfect trifecta of a left hook/right hook/uppercut, I felt I was ready for my duties as a Tritonian.
We are now entering our final approach for what is our journey to Tritonia. . I raged with Tritonal themselves conquering the front of the dance floor. Wrote them a note on my phone and showed it to them, as they couldn’t hear me from the blasting music. They made us feel incredibly welcome in their place of business, as the leaders of Tritonia.
I never imagined the end if their set being as glorious as the beginning and middle. I felt myself complete as I heard the beginnings on one of their last songs… “You hit me tonight… Like a bullet from the bright night sky…” There it was! The festival mix! Now I am complete!!
I want to thank Tyler Levine for making this night incredible and for contributing greatly to this review.
