Tomas More’s “The Day I Spoke EP” Out On My Favorite Robot Records
Frenchman Tomas More’s new EP is a diverse deep house/indie dance album that shows the talent in young producer More, as well as a few more sounds from My Favorite Robot, and Sid Le Rock. The lead-off track, “The Day I Spoke”, is dark, brooding, and sounds like an acid trip gone wrong.
That being said, the track is groovy and the chords behind the break have a wonderfully thick feel to them. “The Omen” is also quite dark but is wonderfully creative. The element of the track that I find most interesting would be the bass-heavy percussion stabs in each measure. The sound is quite unique and makes the track stand out. It also compliments the low bass line very well.
The next track is a remix by the heads of My Favorite Robot that while being a chill and spacey track, ends up being rather muddy in its execution. For a track that is over six minutes long, it doesn’t really do all that much and ends up being rather boring. One nice part about the track is the bass line ends up being very very cool underneath the track’s beat and especially during the break. If they had done more to add a bit of variety into the track, I think it could have been very good.
Finally, Sid Le Rock’s Soft Spoken Remix closes the EP with a melodic, and interesting version of the EP’s namesake. He manages to maintain the track’s original feel, but adds a nice touch to it through beautiful chords, and even better breaks.
The standouts of this release are “The Omen”, and “Sid Le Rock’s Soft Spoken Remix”. Both are unique, interesting, and show great production skills. Check them out!
