Waiting for the Daylight Out On Exploited
Dino Lenny, a 20 year veteran of the industry, has released a new EP on Exploited Records that has a very interesting story:
“”Waiting For The Daylight” is a song about a conversation between an Astronaut and his wife. The spaceman has been stuck out there for years and is reaching a breaking point. He is a kind man on a mission but shows his fragility when he asks about his kids. Not knowing what time it is and not being able to listen to his music while even more frighten aliens cross his spaceship is testing very hard on his control. He spins between satellites but his hope for the daylight to appear is his only lifeline.” (Off of the Exploited Soundcloud)
Besides the rather abstract premise, the EP is pure quality and has the kind of musicality one would expect from such a long history of production. The release includes three versions of WFTD: an original mix, an instrumental mix, and finally a Dino Lenny Remix. The original and instrumental use the wonderfully formed, yet slightly detuned piano chords to create that spacey feel he talks about. The chords are uplifting, yet simple enough to convey multiple emotions at once. The tracks drop into solid, booming deep house with a low bass line and a solid drum beat. The two sections contrast each other very well and add a lot of depth to the track.
The Dino Lenny Remix on the other hand, is much much darker. It gives you the feeling of being in a club past 2 am. It relies heavily on synths as opposed to live instruments, and is a solid contradiction to the earlier pieces. If you want to take a serious left turn in the feeling of the dance floor, grab this remix.
