Big News From Mau5ville
Yes, this is my second article in a row about deadmau5.
It’s an exciting time to be a deadmau5 fan. Some may be upset while others happy, but its clear what deadmau5’s feelings are about his contract with Ultra expired on June 25th. I don’t have much experience in the music production and record label aspects of EDM, but what I do know is that an expired contract means “living without rules.” This would explain why deadmau5 is so ecstatic. The following is from his Twitter:
But what does this mean? This:
Some may call it perfect timing, but just recently deadmau5 announced other plans as well. The following is from his Facebook, on June 21st:
“okay, here’s the big news! well, some of it anyway… Guess what!? mau5trap has now partnered up with Capitol Music Group! yay! What does that even mean? well i’ll tell you… As of now, mau5trap will be operated in the capitol records building in hollywood… which is a pretty rad location. were also building a new studio right here for our new artists and myself so we can get to work! In fact, weve already started! (temp studio in the building for now until the new buildout is complete) complete with new staff, new artists, and most importantly, new music! and streams!!! streams streams streams! the 100mbit line is being installed this week, tricaster up! live.deadmau5.com shall be amazing once again! we’re loving our new home, and can’t wait to see what comes out of this!”
Not only that, but another “invention” from the mind of mau5 entertains all fans.

Yep, it’s a giant, moving, robotic mau5head. Deal with it.
So what does all this mean? This seems like a lot at one time. It’s easy enough to figure out that we’ll be getting a lot of new music in the near future, but what about the future of mau5trap? Moving to Hollywood is a great move for finding new and upcoming talent. Hopefully this added management doesn’t hinder deadmau5’s music production. Perhaps we can see some tracks that were originally unreleased to finally see the light of day. Maybe we’ll see some of the following on his own label!

I’m not sure how to feel about all the news in the past weeks. Perhaps I’m not aware of what sort of restrictions were on Mr. Mau5 from Ultra that may have suppressed his creative abilities. Maybe it was a limit on the number of his releases. My biggest question right now is: Why is the expiration of deadmau5’s contract with Ultra a good thing?
Tweet at me what you think! @Anant_PSingh
I love the mau5head.
