Chocolate Puma, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano Hit Size X With “Stiffness”
Steve Angello’s Size Records sister label, “X,” or Size X, has teased its second release. After Trent Cantrelle‘s Nice & Close EP, Size X’s second release features a few bigger names. “Stiffness” is a collaboration between Chocolate Puma and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano. Chocolate Puma is fresh of releasing “2000 People,” on Laidback Luke‘s Mixmash Records, while Sunnery & Ryan have laid low since releasing “Jungle Blood,” together with Erick Morillo, José Nuñez, and Harry Romero.
X lives up to its reputation as being the “techier” alter ego to Size proper, and “Stiffness” is definitely no exception. The trio provides us with a simple but lively 125 BPM tech house track. “Stiffness” features a grinding bassline with a very simple melody intertwined. The track then hits a descending scale, and a “DRUMS!” sample brings us into the traditional and crazy tech house sound of Chocolate Puma and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano.
The second release on X is due out on June 10, on Beatport. PS: SJ & RM have been pretty active of late also, announcing that they have been working with Nicky Romero on his “Ultra ID1,” which now has the working title of “Sound of the Underground 2013,” and is rumored to be released on Size Records at some point during the summer.
