Need Nothing is a newly released EP featuring the original mix of the album’s namesake Need Nothing, as well as the Portico Quartet & Keir Vine Remix and the Sacha Robotti In Love Remix. Each track spans a different genre from tech house, to electronica, to deep house and each one brings a very interesting take on dance music.
The original mix is an absolute powerhouse with its unique and interesting percussive yet-melodic xylophone-esque lead that is the forefront of the track behind a grooving guitar and a 4/4 beat. The vocals overtop add a great element and allow for the breakdown of the track to end in an absolutely epic amalgamation of sounds leading back to the powerful, contemplative main riffs. The Portico Quartet/Keir Vine remix is much spacier, and reminds me of something one would see while doing a CGI flythrough in space on a documentary. The loops are delayed just enough so that they don’t become too busy, but are full and fill out the background nicely. The bass also reminds me of older 80s music and is still heavy on the bottom end, but is layered so it is the most prominent layer of the track even in the upper ranges. Sacha Robotti’s remix is a bouncier form of deep house but has that bass line we know and love. The high hat absolutely grooves in this track and is a welcome addition as it keeps the piece moving constantly. It also features some incredible percussion and a expansive break. My favorite track of this release would definitely be the original mix, but give it a listen and decide for yourself.
