Feenixpawl About Their Success With “In My Mind”, The USA Tour & Working With Axwell
Australia’s Feenixpawl have made quite a name for themselves this year as the dynamic producers quickly rose from obscurity with “In My Mind,” one of 2012′s summer anthems and a Beatport #1 to boot. Almost every progressive-house jock under the sun found a way to fit the certified banger into his or her sets this summer, including the likes of Axwell (who put the record out on his own Axtone label) and electro-house superstar Thomas Gold.
Feenixpawl has continued to stay in the spotlight this fall, today releasing an uplifting slice of melodic, vocal house entitled “Universe” that will have crowds rocking into the winter season and likely through the start of the new year. To celebrate, we chatted with the Axtone label members to find out how they feel about their meteoric rise to fame, their first tour of the United States, and what they see for the future of Feenixpawl.
You were the mastermind duo behind the summer’s smasher “In My Mind.” What was it like to become such an influential outfit in the electronic music scene in such a short amount of time?
It’s been crazy! We still feel we have a long way to go, but to finally crack into the international scene after doing this for so long is very satisfying. However, it really only makes you aim higher—we have so much more we want to accomplish. Having said that, this year has been amazing. We’ve been able to meet so many cool people and play heaps of awesome gigs. Hopefully, it’s just the beginning.

This fall, you embarked on your first US tour. How has the reaction to your live sets been so far, and what’s unique about America’s energy?
Every time we’ve been to the US, whether to watch shows or to play them, the crowds have been great. They’re just up for it. They’re ready to party and they know their music, so we love coming here. This first weekend at Bliss in Jersey and Tenjune in New York was crazy. Such energetic people! It’s so humbling to fly halfway around the world and witness people singing along to your music.
It was recently announced that you will be playing four gigs at the legendary Stereosonic Festival in Australia. As Melbourne-born artists, just how big of an honor is this?
It’s huge. When they told us, we were blown away. To be able to play on the main stage with the acts that they have had—guys like Tiesto, Tommy Trash, Avicii, and so many more—is truly a dream come true. We are extremely pumped for the tour, and the crew at Stereosonic have done an amazing job. Each year the festival just gets bigger and better.
You just released a new track featuring Quilla called “Universe.” What are some of the things that inspire both of you when creating a new track?
Whenever we make music, we try to just produce something that we enjoy listening to. We find inspiration in so many things. I guess what we aim for is to make something happy and uplifting. We want people to be able to feel something when they listen to our music, so if we’re feeling happy in the studio, hopefully our fans will be happy too!

What’s it like being a part of Axwell’s renowned Axtone label? What opportunities do you feel await you now that you’ve been given an opportunity most young artists don’t get?
Axwell and all the team at Axtone have been so great to us. Having the opportunity to release a track with them has really opened doors for us, and we’ll be eternally grateful. Being able to tour the world and work with so many talented people are great perks, but we’re not going to rest on our laurels. We need to put our heads down and come up with more tracks that will hopefully connect with our fans.
You guys have gained an insane amount of success in just a few months. What awaits Feenixpawl in 2013?
A lot more music. We have held back a fair amount this year in terms of releases; we’ve done some remix work but no originals aside from “In My Mind.” We’ve spent most of this year working on our own stuff, as well as plenty of collaborations, that will be coming out in 2013. So stay tuned!
