Popeska caught my eye a while back after he remixed the internet famous Chuck Testa commercial. His first release (which I apologize everyone I was too swamped with work to post it and it was buried under other tracks), Karmameter is full of electro-house-tastic tracks that make you want to rave as hard as possible. It even includes an awesome Wolfgang Gartner remix!
The namesake, Karmameter, is a hard electro house drop with a great Daft Punk-like build over sampled vocal shots. The drop itself is crazy with lazer-gun sounding synths, over dubstep whomps, and all other wonderous sounds that make electro house so crazy and enjoyable.
Now Or Never (Wolfgang Gartner Edit), frankly my favorite track of the bunch, has an almost Deadmau5 like feel to it (from his Random Album Title days) what with the reverb-laden build, however as it drops it is distinctly Gartner. Sporadic synths, and an overall intense vibe make it such a great listen.
Liar feat. Hannah Juliano is a much poppy-er track and focuses more on the vocals than anything else. While the song is good quality, I didn’t find the vocals and/or lyrics all that appealing. They seemed a bit rushed and seemed to lack imagination that could have made them just the next level better. I enjoyed the track however, and by no means does it diminish the quality of the release.
Finally, the last track on the release is Atlantis feat. Anna Yvette. For this, Popeska slows the tempo a bit which makes it refreshing as the other tracks were a standard electro tempo. What I enjoyed most about this song was the way the synths interacted with the beat. Rhythmically, the choices Popeska makes are very interesting and make for moments of the song to be quite groovy. Otherwise, the track keeps a really great electro vibe and is another quality release.
In the end, Karmameter is a great release. The tracks are all absolutely top quality and will be really interesting to look at as Popeska’s style progresses (he is very young after all). Keep an eye on him and check out this release!
