Track Spotlight: Disclosure’s Control
Who: Disclosure
What: Disclosure, Ria Ritchie – Control (Original Mix)
Where: Britain
I’ve been on a Disclosure kick and frankly I couldn’t be happier with what I’ve been hearing. Control is a funky electronica track that seems innocent enough, until the bass kicks in which makes it all the more intense. To really appreciate what they have done with the lower register of the piece, you must have a subwoofer of some kind and it really makes the track shine. The way the bass compliments the track rhythmically as well as how they pieced together the different pitches that it reaches is very interesting and while the song is relatively low key, just that one element changes the feel of the song altogether.
Disclosure is a duo that perform their pieces live rather than as a DJ set. Generally through laptops, keyboards, and pads, and sometimes live instruments they improvise sets as well as repeat their more popular tracks. While I have yet to attend a performance such as this, I think it would be very interesting to see how music of this genre continues to evolve as live performance has been somewhat under the radar for dance music.
